The Wai A Ariki Food Forest Onerahirahi is at 88 Church Street, Onerahi, Whangārei 0110. The well established gardens include a wide range of fruit trees as well as beds for vegetables and herbs.
Feel free to come and wander around. There is a working group on Thursday and Friday mornings 10.00 - 2.00. However local people can be found working in the gardens at other times.
There are picnic tables which make a great lunch spot for families. There is a pizza oven for community events.
Pruning Workshop
Pruning workshops are held in July. The courses are hands on learning. They cover the basics of pruning. At the end of the course you will be able to prune your oiwn trees. From the July 1 course Cornelia said , ” The pruning course was very clearly presented and well focused.”
Fonterra Community Day
The team from Fonterra Kauri Stores volunteered in the Food Forest on 1 July. They cleaned out vegetation from the sides of the Te Ariki stream. They pruned trees, c;leared gardens and an area for planting hebes whcih will bring more beneficial insects into the garden. The food forest looks great .
